For students graduating 2nd-3rd grade in ’20-‘21 school year (curriculum ranges 4th to 5th grade)
Date: Week 3, July 26-30
Instructor: Mr. Vande Guchte
This course is about unwelcomed guests….maybe right in your backyard! During the week, students will be given the chance to study various invasive species around the globe. We will take an in depth look at different invasive species such as Lionfish, pythons, and even types of plants and their impact on local ecosystems in order to answer the question: Do these species belong here? We will analyze why they are a problem as well as possible solutions on how to get rid of these invaders. Students will guide some of their own learning through inquiry-based research on these different species! They will collaborate with their peers, generate researchable questions, complete their own research, and create a project to share their learning with the class. By the end of the week, students will have a new understanding of the many different types of invasive species and the threat they pose around our planet!
